Welcome to the Angley School community.  Angley is a thriving and successful school with an established record of excellent results and outstanding achievements in many areas.

In their last reports Ofsted stated that “ The Head and governors have created a culture of achievement for all students… very good teaching enables boys and girls to learn equally well.”

Angley is a Specialist College in Sport, Maths with ICT and in Vocational Education. This is a rare recognition of the school’s continued high performance providing many opportunities for all students.  The new Learning School structure provides an excellent platform which will allow everyone to thrive, gaining new skills and having many positive experiences while being supported in a caring and safe environment.

Angley provides an exciting range of activities both in lessons and in teams and clubs which meet at lunchtime and after school. Many students benefit from visits and trips including outward bound programmes, language visits abroad and major expeditions around the world. Around the school our new Harris Sports Centre allows students to follow a range of PE and Sport education programmes, the farm provides rich opportunities for young people to work with animals throughout the year and a thriving equestrian group competes at the highest level in competitions around the country.

We take the education and personal development of all young people seriously at Angley. The school is involved in a number of community projects and we have active partnerships with Cranbrook School and local further education colleges. As a result students of Angley have every chance to follow courses which suit them and which match their ambitions. Our nurturing of high standards and strong personal values  mean that all students develop rapidly into independent and confident young people ready to embrace the opportunities of university education or the world of work.

In partnership with students and their families everyone at Angley is committed to bringing the best out of every aspect of school life. Together we can build the future for every child so that they become the adults who will be the leaders and active citizens of tomorrow.

A Message From The Principal

I am very pleased to report on a highly successful start to the year. In addition to the Year 7 Students, many others have adopted the new school uniform and have made a major impact on school life already. There is a smartness and real sense of purpose in all years and lessons and school activities have got off to a flying start.

It is good to celebrate fantastic results achieved by our Year 11 and Sixth Form in the summer exams. 65% of Year 11 gained 5 or more A* to C grades with a large number achieving 10 or more good grades. Our A Level students again achieved outstanding results breaking previous school records. For all our students these were the best results in the school’s history and I would like to congratulate them and their teachers for their hard work and positive commitment.

A large number of our successful students have joined the Sixth Form and are already getting involved as Prefects, Mentors and Young Leaders in helping younger students and supporting staff in running events and activities. Our Head Boy – Marco Palumbo and Head Girl – Zoe Heath are keen to lead all students in being more involved and active so that everyone feels their contribution to school life is valued and makes a difference.

Our Team this year has been strengthened by the arrival of a number of new staff: Ms Brown, Mrs Barnett, Mr Gorman, Mr Fysh, Mrs Freeman, Miss Magee, Miss Swain and Mr Van-Niekerk. We wish them all a happy and successful career here at Angley.

The successful future of the school depends upon us continuing to work hard to improve standards and to maintain strong relations between the staff, students and parents. I am really pleased that we are launching a PTA this term which will provide greater opportunities for parents to be better informed and involved in school life. If you wish to know more please contact Mrs McGregor or Mrs Harlow at school.

A large focus for us will be to improve Reading and Writing especially in Years 7 to 9 [Key Stage 3] and to assess how students are progressing so that they and parents can make good choices for the Options in Year 9 and then for GCSE’s in Year 10 and 11. Parents will receive regular updates on how their son/daughter is progressing but of course contact can be made either using the School Planner which every student has been given or by contacting their Learning Director for their Year Group.

I am looking forward to a year which is packed with exciting and demanding things for all students. Already our Year 7 had an overnight camping trip to build teamwork and to get to know each other better. Teams in various sports are already underway and a number of clubs and activities will be starting up soon. I expect every student to have good, challenging lessons and that they will all make good progress. It would be brilliant if everyone took the opportunity to be part of at least one club, team or event this year. Angley has a huge amount to offer and it is important that we will take pride in ourselves and the school and set out to be the best we can. In this way we can make 2009/10 a really outstanding year.
