Angley School Equestrian Team (ASET)

This is a busy, yet exciting time for ASET in the build up to running our first horse show. Trophies have been engraved, rosettes ready to be collected, entries flooding in, it’s all go, go, go!!! Monies raised from the show will go to help fund ASET entry fees and also provide subsidised training for our keen young riders.

ASET’s first team training session is on Wednesday 1 November and will be held at Bull Farm with kind permission from Mrs. Stevenson. You may remember Vicky Stevenson who left Angley last year. Vicky is now undertaking a full time equine course at Plumpton College (where I use to teach) and so is ex ASET rider Leah Barrett. Both girls are doing Angley proud!

ASET has enjoyed great success competing in the last academic year and has 2 novice and 1 intermediate team, as well as 3 individual riders qualified for the National Schools Equestrian Association Championship show at Merristwood Agricultural College this November. To get this far is a FANTASTIC achievement and I wish all the team lots of luck. Kick on and tally-ho!

ASET always welcomes new riders. There are 3 levels of competition:

  • Novice – with jumps 2’3”-2’6”
  • Intermediate – with jumps 2’9”-3’
  • Open – with jumps over 3’

You do need your own, or borrowed horse and access to transport in order to get to the shows. Mums and dads must be keen to ‘muck in’ too! Non-pony owners are most welcome to come to the shows, the more support and cheers, the better! This year I will endeavor to arrange trips/activities that are open for all. Tim Stockdale Show Jumping lecture/demo should be great fun and then there’s Olympia at Christmas.

Here’s to a FUN and SUCCESSFUL horsey year!
